How does Richmond classify its parks?
The parks system has City, Community and Neighbourhood parks. City parks serve the wider city; neighbourhood parks serve nearby residents and often share school sites.
Can I bring a charcoal barbecue?
No. Open fires, wood fires and charcoal barbecues or stoves are prohibited in Richmond parks and on beaches.
Where can I use a propane barbecue?
Only in designated areas at Garry Point, King George Community Park, South Arm Community Park and McDonald Beach Park. A barbecue is not allowed elsewhere in those parks.
Can my dog run off leash in any park?
No. Dogs must be leashed except in designated off-leash areas. The city provides a separate Dogs in Parks list.
Can I practise golf in a park?
Golf and other use of golf clubs are prohibited except at West Richmond Pitch & Putt in Hugh Boyd Community Park.
Can I fly a drone in Richmond parks?
No. The city’s parks-system rules prohibit drones in all Richmond parks.
Where can club members fly model aircraft?
Fixed-line controlled aircraft are limited to the Model Airplane Park at 12851 Rice Mill Road. Radio-controlled aircraft have a designated area and set times at Manoah Steves School Park. Membership and club rules apply.
Do summer pop-up shelters stay up all year?
No. The city describes them as seasonal, from mid-May through September. The 2026 locations include Britannia Shipyards, Paulik, Terra Nova, South Arm, Minoru and Steveston parks.
What is required for power kiting at Garry Point?
Use the designated area, obtain a permit and wear a safety helmet displaying the permit sticker. Park users have the right of way. Questions go to parks@richmond.ca or 604-244-1208.
