Before you start

The park name identifies the surrounding destination, not a promise that every path or lawn is off leash. Use the city’s dynamic map to see the designated zone. Several entries are marked temporary or pilot, so those boundaries need particular attention before a visit.

Keep your dog in sight and under effective verbal control. An aggressive dog must be leashed immediately. Owners must carry a leash even while the dog is off leash and must remove its waste. A visible licence is required.

Rules and exceptions

  • Dogs are prohibited at Richmond Nature Park, Richmond Nature Study Centre/Nature Park East and Terra Nova Rural Park to protect sensitive plant and animal communities.
  • The temporary Elmbridge/Alderbridge area and McLean pilot area are retained as temporary entries, not presented as permanent parks.
  • Leash the dog outside the zone, including within the rest of the surrounding park.
  • The current web list includes new McCallan Park. The linked brochure is labelled 2024, so the current web list is used for this checked roster.
  • Dog-waste collection bins are at off-leash entrances. Do not confuse this service with permission to leave waste on trails.
