Sanitation Worker
Pay Rate: $19.30 – $20.00 per hour
Environment: Cold-temperature facility operations
Schedule: Full-time | On-site
About the Role
This is a hands-on, essential role at the heart of keeping our facilities safe, clean, and welcoming. You will be the reason our entranceways, parking lots, perimeter, and operational spaces meet the highest standards every day. If you take pride in a job well done, have a strong work ethic, and enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you.
Please note: This position operates in a cold-environment setting. Candidates must be comfortable working in refrigerated or cold-temperature conditions on a regular basis.
What You'll Do
Facility Cleanliness and Maintenance
You will ensure all facilities are consistently clean, well-maintained, and free of debris. This includes conducting daily inspections to identify priority areas and taking prompt action based on operational needs.
Grounds and Exterior Care
You will sweep, vacuum, or blow litter, cigarette butts, sand, and debris from sidewalks, parking areas, and the perimeter. You'll keep loading docks, entrances, dumpster areas, and signage clean - removing graffiti as required and emptying, wiping, and cleaning exterior garbage and recycling containers.
Interior Cleaning
You'll mop corridors, garbage rooms, and recycling rooms; clean office areas and washrooms; and complete weekly sweeping and dusting of mechanical and electrical rooms.
Equipment and Vehicle Oversight
You will perform Vehicle Inspection Checklists, maintain equipment cleanliness, and purchase gasoline and diesel while maintaining required documentation.
Safety and Compliance
You'll monitor full compactors, garbage, and recycling bins and report issues to management. Monthly, you'll check fire extinguishers and emergency lights in mechanical rooms. Spills and hazards are cleaned immediately and escalated to management when necessary - because safety is everyone's responsibility.
Teamwork and Flexibility
You'll work collaboratively with the team and take on other reasonable requests from management as operational needs evolve.
What You Bring
We're looking for demonstrated skills and character over formal credentials. The following will set you up for success:
-
Experience in commercial or facilities cleaning (an asset)
-
A current, valid driver's license with a clean driving record (an asset)
-
A safety-first mindset and the ability to work responsibly in a cold-temperature environment
-
Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work
-
Good time management - ability to prioritize tasks and work independently
-
Reliability, dependability, and a positive, team-oriented attitude
-
Effective communication and customer service skills when interacting with colleagues and site visitors
-
Previous supervisory or leadership experience (an asset, not a requirement)
Physical Requirements
This role involves regular physical activity including standing, bending, lifting, and working outdoors or in cold environments for extended periods. Candidates should be comfortable with the physical demands of a hands-on operations role.
