Donald’s Fine Foods is a family owned specialty meat processing company operating six facilities across British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan under the North 49 Foods, Thunder Creek Pork, Britco Pork and Five Corners Meat Co. brands. We’re looking for a Supply Chain Manager to own the end to end physical flow of product across our network: warehousing, transportation, inventory governance and capacity planning.
This is a leadership role reporting directly to the COO. You’ll lead four direct reports covering warehouse and distribution, transportation and network logistics, inventory control, and supply chain planning and performance. The role is based at our Mitchell Island corporate site, with regular travel to our facilities across the network.
What you’ll own
Strategy and organization. Build the company wide supply chain strategy and a three year capability roadmap. Translate growth plans, including North 49 expansion, into warehouse, freight, external storage, labour and systems requirements. Set clear accountabilities, management routines and succession plans, and recommend network design, capital priorities and organizational changes to the COO.
Network flow and service. Keep product moving reliably between our plants, Mitchell Island, Five Corners facilities, external storage and customers. Set the standards for transfers, carriers, warehouses and customer service, and build contingency plans for weather, equipment, carrier and space disruptions. You’ll balance service, shelf life, inventory and total delivered cost, and you’ll have the authority to stop or reschedule movements when safety, temperature, traceability or product integrity requirements aren’t met.
Transportation and external logistics. Approve the transportation strategy, carrier portfolio and scorecards. Oversee intercompany, direct ship, long haul and export freight. Negotiate and recommend carrier, cold storage and logistics contracts, and control freight, detention, accessorial, claims and external storage costs. Hold third party providers to our food safety, traceability and service standards.
Inventory governance. Set accuracy, cycle count, reconciliation and adjustment standards. Make sure material variances, aging and missing product get independent investigation, and lead cross functional action on aged, excess and at risk inventory so the data holds up for both operational and financial decisions.
Planning, systems and performance. Establish a rolling 13 week capacity and transportation outlook so constraints are visible before commitments are made. Own the supply chain scorecards, cost analysis and corrective action discipline, and sponsor scanning, system discipline and WMS/TMS readiness.
People, compliance and risk. Coach your managers and build depth behind them. Set escalation protocols for temperature, traceability, capacity, documentation and service risks, and make sure the network meets food safety, transportation, occupational safety and customer requirements.
What you bring
A degree or diploma in supply chain, logistics, operations, business, engineering or a related field. SCMP is an asset. At least seven years of progressive supply chain, logistics, warehousing or distribution experience, including leading managers or senior supervisors. Experience in food manufacturing, refrigerated distribution, meat processing or another regulated environment is strongly preferred. Strong command of inventory control, transportation, external logistics, ERP/WMS/TMS concepts and KPI management. A proven record of building systems and teams across multiple sites.
If you think in networks, not just warehouses, and you want a role where your decisions move product across multiple brands and provinces, we want to hear from you.
